Game Recap

Wildcats sweep Riverside as Kennihan throws her own no-hit shut out

Geena Kennihan was brilliant in the circle throwing a no-hitter to match Katie Agatucci’s feat in the first game of the double header as the Wildcats topped the Pirates 10-0. The game was halted after 3 innings by the double header mercy run rule.

After starting with two 3-up, 3-down innings Kennihan’s 0-1 pitch hit Pirate left fielder Hannah Rodgers to spoil the perfect game. Later in the inning a dropped fly ball in right field allowed another Riverside base runner but Kennihan then threw her third strikeout of the inning to end the game. She had 4 K’s on the day.

East also matched their offensive output from the first game with 9 hits in the second game. Agatucci was 2 for 2 with a triple while Kennihan and Violet Kehoe both rapped out doubles. Claire Pedersen went 2 for 2 in this game finishing the double header with a perfect 1.000 average.

The Wildcats finish the regular season with a record of 16-3 and a conference record of 11-1. Both are bests in East Chapel Hill softball history. The Wildcats can do no worse than sharing the PAC-6 conference title, assuming Northern wins out over Cardinal Gibbons on Thursday. A tie breaker for NCHSAA seeding will be needed in that event and will be determined at a later date. First round games are slated for Wednesday, May 10 at the higher seed’s home.
