Wildcats Clinches Lead In Seventh Inning For Victory Over Northern
Wildcats took the lead late in the game in a 3-2 victory over Northern on Monday. The game was tied at two with Wildcats batting in the top of the seventh when Claire Pedersen singled. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by center fielder Violet Kehoe. Katie Agatucci then singled on a 3-1 count with Pedersen scoring the winning run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Agatucci struck out seven, while McKenzie McCullen sat down two.
Wildcats fired up the offense in the first inning. Grace Vincent doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. She would steal third and score on a passed ball.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Northern tied things up at two. Northern scored one run when Paige Williamson singled.
Agatucci was the winning pitcher for Wildcats. She lasted seven innings, allowing six hits and two runs while striking out seven and walking one.
McCullen took the loss for Northern. She allowed five hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out two.
Wildcats tallied five hits on the day. Agatucci and Claire Pedersen each racked up multiple hits for Wildcats. Pedersen and Agatucci each collected two hits to lead Wildcats.
McCullen went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Northern in hits.
The Wildcats move to 10-2 in conference while the Ladies drop to 8-4. East can clinch sole possession of second place with a win over Chapel Hill or a Northern loss to Orange this week. Both matchups are home and away series that conclude the regular season.
